In 2017, Joe Tippens was told he had three months to live. Small-cell lung cancer. Stage IV. Metastases everywhere — neck, stomach, bladder, pancreas, lungs. His oncologist had run out of options. A family friend suggested he look into something unconventional: a veterinary dewormer called fenbendazole.
In 2018, his PET scan came back clean. Whether fenbendazole was responsible, we still don’t know for certain. Tippens was simultaneously enrolled in a Keytruda (pembrolizumab) immunotherapy trial. But his story went viral, sparked a wave of self-experimentation, and ultimately drew the attention of researchers.
The Original Joe Tippens Protocol — Exactly
1. Fenbendazole — Panacur C (222 mg packets)
- Dose: 1 packet (222 mg) per day
- Schedule: 3 days on, 4 days off (this cycling is important)
- Timing: Taken with food
2. Vitamin E Succinate (δ-tocopherol succinate)
- Dose: 400–800 IU daily
- Specifically the succinate form, which has independent cytotoxic activity against cancer cells
3. Curcumin / Turmeric
- Dose: ~600 mg daily
- Take with piperine (black pepper extract) for absorption
- Role: NF-κB inhibition, anti-inflammatory, anti-angiogenic
4. CBD Oil
- Dose: 25 mg daily
- Role: Anti-proliferative via endocannabinoid receptor signaling
Why This Specific Combination?
| Component | Primary Mechanism | Secondary Role |
|---|---|---|
| Fenbendazole | Microtubule disruption + GLUT1 blockade + p53 | Structural attack |
| Vitamin E Succinate | Mitochondrial apoptosis in cancer cells | Fat-soluble carrier for FBZ |
| Curcumin | NF-κB suppression + anti-angiogenesis | Anti-inflammatory |
| CBD | CB1/CB2-mediated anti-proliferative | QoL support |
The principle is metabolic + structural multi-targeting: hit the cancer through its energy supply, its structural scaffolding, and its inflammatory environment simultaneously.
How the Protocol Has Evolved Since 2019
The 444 mg Switch
Many practitioners now recommend 444 mg fenbendazole rather than the original 222 mg. The rationale: fenbendazole has very low oral bioavailability, so a higher dose may be needed.
Adding Ivermectin
The biggest evolution: many people have added ivermectin. Ivermectin targets different pathways (P-gp, Wnt, PAK1, immune activation) that complement fenbendazole’s mechanisms perfectly.
We cover this in detail in our full guide: Fenbendazole + Ivermectin: The Combination Protocol
What to Expect: Reported Timelines
Note: These are anecdotal reports from patient communities, not clinical data.
- Initial inflammatory responses in the first 1–2 weeks
- Tumor marker changes tracked every 4–8 weeks
- Imaging changes most commonly reported at 3–6 months
The Safety Non-Negotiables
- Liver function baseline: Get ALT, AST, GGT, bilirubin before you start
- Recheck at 2 weeks and monthly
- Tell your oncologist — so they can monitor and flag potential interactions
- Do not take continuous daily — follow the 3-on / 4-off cycling
